The NSW government has made it mandatory for teachers to obtain certification in Aboriginal culture and anti-racism before they can work in schools.

In the most recent attempt to turn education into a political issue, a student who is training to become a teacher at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) shared this with 2GB.

They must finish a mandatory course on Indigenous cultures prior to their school placement.

Woke
Ideologies are once again being imposed on students. All they desire is to focus on their studies and graduation. They shouldn’t be regarded as primary school children or subjected to humiliating sessions regarding Australian history,” Fordham stated to the audience on Tuesday.

It comes after criticism earlier this year due to an edict issued
Sydney
Macquarie University requires all students to attend lectures where non-Indigenous Australians are referred to as ‘settlers’ and ‘guests’ in their own country.

Across the state, at James Cook University, physiotherapy students are taught about ‘white privilege,’ whereas Charles Sturt University mandates that their students enroll in an additional paid course focused on Indigenous culture.

The updated training module originates from the
NSW
The Education Department requires this as mandatory for students who aspire to become teachers in NSW.

A representative from ACU informed Daily Mail Australia: “The New South Wales Department of Education mandates that every prospective teacher must finish a compulsory training module focused on Aboriginal Cultural Education.”

Students may graduate from ACU education programs without this, but they cannot teach in government schools in NSW unless they complete this required training module.

The culture segment comprises six sections such as language, notable individuals and locations, effects of previous governmental policies, and the path towards reconciliation.

“All employees are required to finish the compulsory training sessions which include ‘Aboriginal Cultural Education – Let’s Take the First Step Together…’ as well as the training on the Anti-Racism Policy and their duty to proactively combat racism,” according to the department.

The department stated that the module aims to enhance students’ abilities and duties in fostering cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

‘Supporting the department’s partnership accord with the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, this training aims to respectfully recognize and grasp the significance and variety of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, their histories, and cultures, enabling us to view our efforts through a cultural perspective,’ as stated.

‘A large number of employees are participating in the “Connecting to Country” program, gaining profound insights into the various social, cultural, historical, economic, and political matters that persistently impact and worry Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.’

According to its online course details, The University of Newcastle also mandates that students finish this training.

The Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Newcastle University and the NSW Education Department for their input.
