Owen Cooper made history at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards.

On Sunday, January 11, the 16-year-old became the youngest actor to ever win a Golden Globe Award. He took the stage at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles to accept the award for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor on TV for his role as Jamie Miller in Adolescence.

He began his acceptance speech expressing disbelief, saying, "Standing here at the Golden Globes does not feel real whatsoever. What an incredible journey my family and I have been put through. We are forever grateful for what these people have done for me and my family."

It comes as Timothée Chalamet barely mentioned his girlfriend Kylie Jenner during his Golden Globes speech after a red carpet snub.

Owen continued by sharing the story behind how he got into acting in the first place. He said, "You know, what started off as what I thought, ‘You know, I might be okay, I might be awful at.’ I never know. So I took a risk and I went to drama classes.

"I was the only boy there and it was embarrassing," he admitted. "But I got through it."

Although he just achieved a prestigious award in Hollywood, he confessed, "I’m still very much an apprentice. I’m still learning everyday. I’m still learning from the people that are sat in front of me. I wouldn’t be here without you guys."

After Owen thanked his colleagues, his nerves got to him as he said, "Ahhh, this is mad. What is going on?"

Once he collected himself, he thanked his family and team before signing off, "Bring on 2026. You’ll never walk alone. Good night," referencing the anthem for Liverpool FC.

This isn’t the first time Owen has made award show history. Just months ago, he became the youngest male Emmy winner, taking home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Adolescence.

Along with Owen’s nod, the hit crime series was recognized with five nominations at the Golden Globe Awards this year. It ranked among the most recognized television shows, alongside The White Lotus, which led with six nods.

As for film nominations, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another topped with 9 nods, followed closely behind by Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value with eight. Then next is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners with seven, and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet with six.

Some of the nominees for the night included Gary Oldman, Ariana Grande and Michael B. Jordan.

A few actors, like heartthrobs Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal, received their first nod at the award show this year.
