Elon Musk Shares Insights on His 14 Children

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, has revealed rare insights into his family life, particularly regarding his twins. The tech mogul recently commented on a post shared by the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley on X, which featured a photo of him with Strider and Azure, the 4-year-old twins he shares with Shivon Zilis. In his comment, Musk explained the inspiration behind their unique names.

"Me with my son, Stroder Sekhar (named after Aragorn & great Indian physicist Chandrasekhar) and daughter, Comet Azure, named after the most powerful spell in Elden Ring," Musk wrote. This revelation highlights how Musk draws inspiration from both literature and gaming when naming his children.

A Family of 14

Musk’s journey as a father began in 2002 when his ex-wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson, gave birth to their son, Nevada Alexander, who tragically passed away at just 10 weeks old. The couple went on to have five more children: twins Vivian and Griffin, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian.

In 2020, Musk and singer Grimes welcomed their first child, X Æ A-12. The pair later had two more children together: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl and son Techno Mechanicus.

A few weeks before the arrival of their second child, Musk secretly fathered Strider and Azure with Zilis, an executive at Neuralink, in November 2021. The couple then welcomed their daughter, Arcadia, in February 2024.

Expanding the Family

In February 2025, Ashley St. Clair revealed that she and Musk had welcomed a child, whose name was later revealed to be Romulus. Zilis then announced that she and Musk had secretly welcomed their fourth child together, a son named Seldon Lycurgus. However, the exact timing of this birth remains unclear.

Musk’s large family is not just a result of chance; it appears to be a deliberate choice. According to reports, the former Senior Advisor to the President of the United States has spoken privately about wanting to produce a "legion-level" of children before the end of the world.

A Legion of Children

In April 2025, the Wall Street Journal reported that Musk views his kids as a "legion," a term referring to a military unit used by the Roman army that consisted of thousands of soldiers. Musk allegedly texted St. Clair while she was pregnant with Romulus, stating, "To reach legion-level before the apocalypse, we will need to use surrogates."

The name Romulus also nods to Roman mythology. According to legend, Romulus and his twin brother Remus founded the city of Rome, but Romulus murdered Remus after an argument. This historical reference adds another layer to the significance of the name.

Musk’s approach to family life reflects his broader vision for the future, blending personal ambition with a sense of urgency. Whether through naming conventions or the sheer number of children, Musk continues to make headlines, not just as a tech innovator, but as a father to a growing family.
