Golden Globes 2026: Stars Missing from the Ceremony

The Golden Globes 2026 ceremony, held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on January 11, saw a star-studded audience, but several notable celebrities were absent. From award winners to nominees, some of the biggest names in entertainment chose not to attend the event for various reasons.

One of the most noticeable absences was Michelle Williams, who won the Best Female Actor – Television – Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture award for her role in Dying for Sex. Instead of being on the red carpet, she was in New York performing in the play Anna Christie. Her absence was a surprise, given the significance of her win.

Another prominent figure missing from the event was Billy Crudup, who was nominated for Best Supporting Male Actor – Television for his role in The Morning Show. E! News confirmed that he was on stage in London, which explains his absence despite his nomination.

Regina Hall, an actress from One Battle After Another, also missed the ceremony. She was under the weather, though she received a heartfelt shoutout from director Paul Thomas Anderson, who won Best Screenplay – Motion Picture. In his speech, Anderson said, “Regina, who can’t be with us here tonight, she’s not feeling well. She’s one of the first people I gave this script to. She’s been with from the beginning. Great collaborator.”

Absences Due to Other Commitments

Carrie Coon, known for her role in The White Lotus, opted out of attending the ceremony despite being nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television. She shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she wouldn’t be able to support her friends or fawn over the artists she admires. “But I’m grateful for the recognition and I know you’re all just happy to be at the table,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Rose Byrne, who won Best Female Actor in Motion Picture Musical/Comedy, had her longtime partner Bobby Cannavale skip the event. He was at a reptile convention in New Jersey, as Rose explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: “We’re getting a bearded dragon. This expo is the place to go.”

Prioritizing Other Projects

Cynthia Erivo, who was nominated for her work in the Wicked franchise, also missed the ceremony. As E! News previously confirmed, the 38-year-old was preparing for her one-woman production of Dracula in London. During a December statement, she expressed excitement about her nomination, saying, “Wow! What lovely news to receive live from the rehearsal room of Dracula.”

She continued, “It’s an honor to be nominated once again for this film. It has been a beautiful journey to play this character, and this is the cherry on top.” Cynthia also gave a shoutout to her “sweet sister” and costar Ariana Grande, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Motion Picture Musical/Comedy for her portrayal of Glinda. She added, “This entire journey could never have been possible without the wonderful leadership of my brother and glorious director Jon M. Chu and producer extraordinaire everyone could only wish for, Marc Platt.”

Who Was There?

While these stars sat out the 2026 Golden Globes, many others made their way to the red carpet. From fashion-forward looks to unforgettable moments, the event showcased a mix of glamour and celebration.
