Outline:
For almost 14 years, veteran producer Kathleen Kennedy was the leader of Lucasfilm, managing the creation, filming, and distribution of all theStar Warsprojects since The Walt Disney Company purchased the company from George Lucas.
As Kennedy is now leaving the company, she revealed a single regret, which stems from one film and one casting choice.
Kennedy’s One Regret
In a recent conversation with Deadline after leaving the company, Kennedy was questioned about whether there was anything she “could have improved with more time” or something she wished she had done but didn’t.
Kennedy initially stated that she had no regrets, but then she quickly thought of one:Solo: A Star Wars Story.
No, I don’t truly have any regrets. Well, perhaps a little regret aboutSolo: A Star Wars StoryI brought Larry Kasdan in on it, and we were really excited about that idea. Then, when you get involved in something and realize fundamentally, conceptually, you can’t replace Han Solo, at least not right now,” Kennedy said.Deadline.
Kennedy made it clear that her regret was not directed at Alden Ehrenreich, who portrayed young Han Solo in the film, nor at the movie itself. She believes it was simply too early to replace him with another actor for such a legendary role.
Although Alden Ehrenreich was amazing and truly a great actor, we placed him in an impossible scenario,” Kennedy told Deadline. “Once you’re in it and committed, you have to keep going. I feel a little regretful about that, but not about the filmmaking itself. I don’t regret the movie-making process. I just believe that conceptually, we moved forward too quickly.
Kennedy is Finished for Good
As Kennedy now leaves her role at Lucasfilm, she emphasized that her exit is final, despite Deadline noting that Disney CEO Bob Iger retired, was succeeded, and then returned.
“That won’t be happening here. I informed everyone that I planned to stay a little longer than I originally intended, but I’m really eager to leave and have the chance to make many films. I want to do more movies, and I hope to return to a diverse range of films like the ones I used to work on,” she said.
I’m excited about collaborating with Frank once more on some projects. He’s been involved in many documentaries and is enjoying himself a lot. I’m also very intrigued by the latest technology, I must admit.
It seems like a genuine new chapter has begun for Lucasfilm.
