Lina Esco has expressed her positive and pleasant experience working alongside Ben Affleck inNetflix’s new crime thriller The Rip.

Currently streaming, the film directed by Joe Carnahan brings backAffleck alongside his long-time friend and partner in work, Matt DamonAs two Miami police officers, together with their squad, who come across a cache of millions in cash. Once news of their confiscation spreads, they start to doubt the people around them.

Esco, 40, portrays Captain Jackie Velez, who is involved in a romantic relationship with Affleck’s JD Byrne. The movie also includes Teyana Taylor, a recent Golden Globe winner, along with Steven Yuen and Sasha Calle.

Speaking to PeopleOn the red carpet at the film’s Tuesday premiere in New York, Esco reminisced about the fun dynamic she and Affleck built while shooting private bedroom scenes.

“We were giggling,” the S.W.A.T. alum shared. “We were just two nerds, being nerdy.”

Calling Affleck, 53, “such a kind person,” she noted, “Sometimes you don’t meet people who are easy to work with, and I can truly say it felt like a relaxed set atmosphere, which is quite uncommon.”

Esco further explained the set atmosphere as “very low-key, very grounded.”

There was no pretension in anyone, it was simply effortless,” she said. “And so is the director [Joe Carnahan]. He ensured everyone felt at ease throughout, kept background music playing constantly, guided you into the film’s atmosphere and emotions. And throughout, it felt like you were part of the movie — and once again, it was a very warm, affectionate set.

The welcoming, cheerful environment inThe Ripwas not an accident but a deliberate actdeliberate decision taken by Affleck and Damon, who co-produced the movie via their production company Artists Equity. During a recent appearance onThe Late Night Show Featuring Jimmy FallonThe pair mentioned that it was crucial for the set atmosphere to be cooperative and balanced for everyone involved.

We truly feel that it’s not only the cast, writers, and director, but also the environment and every individual involved. If they are dedicated to creating a great film, it has a high chance of being better,” Affleck stated. “It’s genuinely a team-based creative process.

To foster a feeling of fairness, they mentioned they introduced a traditional backend incentive system.

“Netflix is clearly a streaming service, the business is undoubtedly evolving, there has been a lot happening,” Affleck explained, mentioning the film industry’s disputed move towards online platformsand what we’re somewhat attempting is, in the past, you were aware of how a film performed and could receive bonuses depending on its box office results.

He added, “Our goal was to adjust that model to fit the current situation on streaming” in an effort to distribute the movie’s financial gains among the “1,200 crew members, each background painter, greensman, and camera [operator].”
