Alan Ritchsonhas rapidly emerged as a preferred casting option for demanding action parts since he portrayed Jack Reacher in Prime Video’sReacherseries, inspired by the books by Lee Child. His newest role will have him exchanging his neat, soldier-like assurance for something somewhat dirtier, as seen in the actor’s new glimpse of hisuntitled Amazon MGM Studios film about a Navy SEAL.

Production began on the new film on January 15, and Ritchson quickly posted a first glimpse of his portrayal of Medal of Honor recipient Mike Thornton, who appears more like Rambo than Reacher with a dirty face and a stained bandanna. In his Instagram post, Ritchson wrote, “Mike Thornton reporting for duty. Day #1 of principal photography. Let the chaos start.”

The film sees Ritchson returning to the direction of Patrick Hughes.after their collaboration on War Machine, with filming occurring in Queensland, Australia. While information from Amazon has been limited, the plot is thought to be set during the last days of the Vietnam War and portrays the events that resulted in Thornton being awarded the Medal of Honor, as detailed in his published autobiography.

Born in 1949, former Navy SEAL Thornton received his Medal of Honor from Richard Nixon in 1973 for his deeds during the Vietnam War, such as rescuing Lieutenant Thomas R. Norris. While there have been numerous action films set in Vietnam that feature exaggerated and dramatic portrayals of war’s horrors, this new movie may aim to offer a more reflective and authentic approach within its action scenes.
