Cillian Murphy from 28 Days Later(2002) made a comeback in the most recent film,The Bone Templeand fans were surprised to discover what his character, Jim, was doing 28 years after the apocalypse swept through England and much of the world. Murphy’s character remains in the same location as he was at the conclusion of the 2002 film.

In an interview with GQ, The Bone TempleThe director, Nia DaCosta, discussed Jim’s highly anticipated return to the franchise and explained why he is in the same position as before.28 Days Later.

As a fan of the first [movie], I was completely stunned—and overwhelmed, as they say—to be the one directing his return.

In the script, he’s preparing tea and toast for his daughter while sharing stories about history. He’s located in the same house he’s been in since the very first film. And I thought, this shouldn’t be about a big hero coming back with all the action and chaos. It needs to have a realistic, human feel.

28 Years Later: The Temple of Boneshas been getting excellent reviews since its recent launch and has pushed James Cameron’s latest addition to theAvatar franchise, Fire and Ash, off of its box office throne, to everyone’s astonishment.

It currently holds an exceptionally strong Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, which is a top mark for the series and is faring much better than28 Years Later from the year prior.

28 Days Later,launched in 2002, was one of the key roles that brought Murphy into the spotlight, paving the way for some of his most recognized performances, includingPeaky Blinders, Oppenheimer, Inception, and Batman Begins. Murphy is not only returning as Jim in the zombie series, but he’s also taking on the role of Tommy Shelby again inPeaky Blinders: The Eternal Man, releasing this year.

28 Years Later: The Temple of Bonesis bringing zombie films back into the spotlight, and is also breathing new life into a classic British series while honoring the films that preceded it.Murphy’s comeback might open the door for upcoming films.and possibly feature the actor in a more prominent role in future additions to the franchise.
