The RCMP state that five individuals, including one person who has passed away, have been charged with kidnapping involving a firearm as well as additional weapon offenses following an event earlier this month in Whitehorse.

The police issued a statement saying that multiple 911 calls received around 8:45 p.m. on April 14 led them to trace the locations back to a residence within the Kulan subdivision area.

Extra support was brought in following an investigation in the region, which included a critical incident response team and an emergency reaction unit, according to the RCMP. The police reported that six individuals were detained without any problems; however, one person was transported to the hospital.

Two additional individuals, reportedly also victims in the incident, were transported to the hospital, received treatment, and were subsequently discharged, according to the RCMP. These two persons were not from the Yukon region and have now gone back to Vancouver.

Police said they raided the home and property two days later and found a semi-automatic assault rifle, a disassembled handgun and three bags containing suspected crack cocaine.

Five individuals faced charges including pointing a firearm, assaulting with a weapon, and kidnapping involving a firearm. Subsequently, one of these men passed away due to unrelated circumstances following his release from custody. The Yukon Coroner’s Office is currently investigating this death.

Two of the men facing charges are still being held, whereas the other two have been freed.

The police mentioned that they arrested a man who was then hospitalized. He has been released from custody but continues to be under investigation.

It was mentioned that additional charges will likely be filed.
