Recognition of Nigerian NGO at the United Nations

A Nigerian non-governmental organisation, Temvert Empowerment Foundation, has received accreditation from the United Nations to take part in a high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly in New York. This event is set to occur on September 25, 2025, and will mark the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth during the 80th UN General Assembly.

The foundation’s registration and the list of its delegates have been officially approved for participation in the UN session. This confirmation was provided in a letter dated September 8, 2025, signed by the United Nations Secretariat and addressed to the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Temitayo Olatunde, who is based in the United Kingdom. The letter was shared with Punch Diaspora Tales on Tuesday.

According to the UN, the programme aims to bring together accredited participants from around the world to address challenges faced by young people and explore strategies for sustainable youth development. The letter states, “This letter is to confirm that your registration has been approved to attend the following event: High-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth. It will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 25, 2025.”

It also mentions that participants may need to present this letter when applying for a visa. All travel arrangements, including visas, accommodation, and transportation, are the responsibility of the participants. The UN does not charge any fees for participation in the event. However, all registered participants must collect their special event tickets (SET) to gain access to the event venue.

Due to the limited number of seats available in the conference rooms during the high-level week, seating for preferred segments of the event cannot be guaranteed. Further details about assigned tickets, including session assignments and the exact time and location to collect the SET, will be provided closer to the event.

A Milestone for Nigerian Youths

Speaking with Punch Diaspora Tales, Olatunde described the recognition as a significant milestone for his organisation and for Nigerian youths, whose aspirations would now be showcased on the global stage. The UK-based Nigerian highlighted that the approval reflects the NGO’s commitment to advocacy, education, and sustainable development, adding that it would be an opportunity to learn international best practices.

He stated, “Our delegates’ list has also been duly approved by the General Assembly, and we will proudly be attending, carrying with us the dream of every Nigerian youth. This recognition is not only an achievement for the Temvert Empowerment Foundation but also testifies to our relentless commitment to advocacy and sustainable global actions.”

Olatunde added that growing up in Nigeria, he understands the issues that millions of young people face and how their voices often go unheard on the global stage. He emphasized that the organisation’s attendance at the event would serve as a platform to facilitate collaborations that could lead to resources needed to empower young Nigerians in areas such as education and entrepreneurship.

“I value this privilege, and as an organisation, we will amplify the voices of Nigerian youths’ challenges and our innovative solutions at the General Assembly plenary meeting. It will also be an opportunity for us to learn the best international practices,” he said.
