On Tuesday, Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, released a standalone application for its Meta AI assistant, akin to offerings from companies like Microsoft-supported OpenAI and Alphabet-owned Google.

The stand-alone application is part of Meta’s efforts to increase the adoption of the AI assistant beyond its suite of platforms which includes WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

This development highlights CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy to reinforce the company’s standing in the cutthroat AI sector, positioning itself against key competitors like OpenAI and Google.

The standalone app from Meta will offer more tailored replies, drawing on contextual information and various specifics tied to your Facebook and Instagram profiles.

Llama 4, the newest extensive language model developed by Meta, drives the Meta AI assistant and aims to compete with the most recent AI systems from OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, and Anthropic. It boasts enhanced logical abilities, multilingual proficiency, and greater efficiency.

The upcoming application will sync with Meta’s artificial intelligence eyewear and combine with the current accompanying app, according to the firm.

Meta is holding its inaugural AI developers conference, named LlamaCon, on Tuesday. The event will focus on their Llama series of artificial intelligence models.

The owner of Instagram plans to announce its initial-quarter outcomes on Wednesday following the market closure.

Meta will start testing a paid subscription for the AI chatbot’s advanced versions in the second quarter, had reported in February.

Nonetheless, according to a source, the subscription service may not generate significant income until at least next year.

Launched in September 2023, Meta AI is a virtual assistant designed to carry out reasoning tasks through the use of extensive language models.
