Nigerian Delegation Gains Insight into Metaverse and Digital Innovation in China
A delegation led by Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, recently embarked on a two-week intensive course focused on metaverse technology cooperation and development modes for Belt and Road countries in Shanghai, China. This specialized program was hosted by the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders (CIFAL) Shanghai under the leadership of Mr. Wu Yugang, Executive Director of CIFAL.
The initiative brought together policymakers and administrators from various regions to explore the latest advancements in metaverse technology and digital innovation. The training aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how these emerging technologies could be harnessed for sustainable development and governance.
Key Areas of Focus
Throughout the two weeks, the Nigerian delegation engaged in academic sessions and practical workshops that covered Development Trends and Prospects in Metaverse Technology and Industry. Additionally, they explored the intersection of Metaverse × AIGC: Generative AI Reshaping the Digital World. These sessions were led by distinguished Chinese university professors and technology experts who shared their insights on the future of digital ecosystems.
Participants also had the opportunity to visit leading tech and innovation hubs in Shanghai and Chengdu. These included SPSpace, Dunyu (Shanghai) Internet Science and Technology Co. Ltd, Shanghai Kerui Exhibition Technology Co. Ltd, Gaoju (Shanghai) Low Altitude Industry Integration Base, Chengdu Huaxi Ecological Agriculture Technology Co. Ltd, MTANG China Culture Communication Co. Ltd, China Unicom (Chengdu) Limited, and Zhisheng Digital Technology Co. Ltd. These visits provided hands-on exposure to cutting-edge developments in technology and innovation.
Cultural Exchange and Heritage Exploration
As part of the cultural exchange component of the program, the delegation experienced China’s rich heritage through tours of iconic locations such as the Bund and Yu Garden. They also participated in a Shanghai Huangpu River Night Cruise and visited the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda at Dujiangyan Base. These experiences offered a deeper appreciation of China’s historical and natural significance.

Speaking about the significance of the program, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin described the training as timely and transformative. He emphasized that emerging technologies like the metaverse and generative AI are set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of governance, education, communication, and public service delivery.
