The celebration of Earth Day took place at the USJ14 community garden in Subang Jaya, Selangor, where young students from kindergartens were taught about eco-friendly living practices.
The event was organized by Little Caliphs USJ15 kindergarten and featured enjoyable activities like nature walks, leaf printing, and drumming with recyclable items.
Amal Mohammed Nasser, the headmaster of the kindergarten, mentioned that the kids had visited the garden before for conducting science projects, however, this marked their inaugural celebration of Earth Day at the location.
“Taking the children to this place will provide them with greater understanding and improved consciousness regarding the importance of maintaining a healthy and clean planet,” Amal stated in an interview with StarMetro.
Nur Jannah Nur Iskandar, who operates the kindergarten, mentioned that the aim of the celebration was to encourage appreciation for our planet among the children, their parents, and the local community.
“We urge both children and parents to begin with small steps at home, focusing on practicing cleanliness along with the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle,” Nur Jannah stated additionally.
Ken Chia, a Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) councilor, mentioned that this was their inaugural celebration of Earth Day alongside the children.

MBSJ took part in the festivities by conducting a health and dengue prevention seminar for the kids.
“We aim to educate the young generation about renewable energy, and we plan to collaborate with additional kindergartens in the coming days,” he stated.
Muhamad Adam Abdullah, who serves as the secretary of the Community Garden Association, mentioned that the garden was established in 2018.
He mentioned that they have been collaborating closely with the kindergarten since 2019.
Many community gardens concentrate on growing plants but have neglected using them to benefit the community.
“We decided to revamp our garden by planting trees along with setting up a rainwater harvesting system, converting dry leaves into compost, and constructing structures using bamboo.”
“Thus, our garden is perfect for observing Earth Day,” he mentioned additionally.
