A New Chapter for Kristen Stewart and Dylan Meyer

Kristen Stewart, known for her iconic roles in films like Twilight and Cloud Atlas, has taken on a new role as a writer and director with her debut film The Chronology of Water. This marks not only her first time behind the camera but also the first time she has worked alongside her wife, Dylan Meyer, since they married in April 2025. The couple made a striking appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, which was held at 2220 Arts + Archives on Thursday, January 8.

Red Carpet Appearance

Stewart and Meyer were seen holding hands as they posed for photos on the red carpet. Stewart chose a black-and-white one-piece swimsuit by Chanel, paired with baggy black trousers and platform shoes. She completed the look with silver jewelry, adding a touch of elegance to her outfit.

Meyer, who is a screenwriter and producer, wore a white graphic tee with black mini shorts and a Thom Browne top coat. She finished off her ensemble with burgundy-colored tights and Doc Martens, making a bold fashion statement.

The Film’s Background

The Chronology of Water is an adaptation of author Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 memoir of the same name. According to the official synopsis, the film follows Imogen Poots as "a young woman who finds escape from an abusive home through competitive swimming in the 1980s." After her athletic dreams are derailed, she navigates love, loss, addiction, sexuality, and her own self-destructive impulses while discovering her voice and healing through the transformative act of writing.

Stewart’s Directorial Debut

Stewart’s directorial debut has been a significant milestone in her career. Last November, she shared insights into the experience, stating that it taught her "that there are emotions that can diminish the point in environments that are not conducive to listening to women."

She continued, "It’s okay to be emotional, and it’s fun to be angry when you can turn it into something productive and beautiful." Stewart emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people, saying, "If you find the right to surround yourself with, you don’t have to put a muzzle on. All of those ideas are translated through cumulative effort."

A Collaborative Effort

Stewart reflected on the collaborative nature of filmmaking, noting, "I think maybe I always knew this, but you can’t make a movie alone and when you find the right to do it with, everything’s okay." Her partnership with Meyer, both professionally and personally, has clearly played a vital role in bringing this project to life.

Upcoming Release

The Chronology of Water will be widely released in January, marking the start of a new chapter for Stewart as a filmmaker. With her creative vision and the support of her wife, the film promises to be a powerful exploration of resilience, healing, and the transformative power of storytelling.
